Badhuis celebrates Martenitsa / Mărțișor with Balkan ensemble Sultan! On 1 March, spring is celebrated in many Eastern-European countries. People make small decorations of red and white wool which they give each other on that day. If you see a blossoming tree, you hang the decoration on one of its branches. It’s a beautiful ritual, so why not celebrate it in the Netherlands too? So bring your red and white wool to the Badhuis on 1 March and join in! With live Balkan music, nice veggie food and drinks!
Sultan play authentic Eastern-European and Mediterranean folklore and Balkan soul. Whether they perform at large folk dance festivals or at intimate small venues to a seated audience, a spirited folk party is guaranteed! Singer Ellen invited guest singers Juliette and Marielle. Especially for this Martenitsa-concert they sing a set of beautiful Bulgarian spring songs, both a cappella and with the ensemble.
Sultan consists of:
Ellen Boers – vocals
Jelle van Herwijnen – tambura
Stef Koopman – accordion
Joris van Beek – violin
René Gosse – percussion
Willem Raadsveld – double bass
Bert Kruijer – clarinet
